Biography
Thomas Exley of High Royds (1732-1807). Fifth generation from Robert Exley of Halifax (d.1647). Born 14th June 1732, son of Robert and Dorothy Exley. Married Mary Daly of Rawdon in 1767. Had nine children. The direct line to Andrew continues through his son Robert Exley (1787-1867).
Victor’s pedigree identifies Thomas as the ancestor of “Lionel’s line” — the NZ branch from which Andrew descends.
Note: Meryll’s hand-drawn tree appears to show Thomas’s father as “John Exley (1679-1763)”, but the Exley Chronicle (Typed) clearly places Robert of High Royds (b.1686) as the intervening generation between John of Rawdon and Thomas. Robert was John of Rawdon’s son; Thomas was Robert’s son. The “John (1685-1763)” on Meryll’s tree may be a different John (born 1679 per the Chronicle), who was Thomas’s uncle.
