James Exley (1540-1592), son of Francis de Southowram (d. 1572). Married Sebell (Sybil) Oates (d. 1599). The NZ pedigree places him in the Richard of Burton branch, as a child of Francis de S.
This James m. Sebell Oates may be the same person as Francis Exley (m. Sybil Oates) in Victor’s pedigree, where the “Francis m. Sybil Oates” who founded the Liversedge Hall line is shown as a son of John Exley (m. Eliz. Tonge, 1555). The name discrepancy (James vs Francis) and the different parent (Francis de S. vs John) represent one of the key differences between the NZ and Victor’s pedigrees. See Pedigree Connections.
