Description

Handwritten letter from Victor Exley to the NZ family (5 pages). Undated. The entire letter is rotated 90 degrees in the scan and the handwriting is very faint, making transcription extremely difficult. This is a separate letter from the 2-page undated letter (scan 7).

Scan_20260308 (10).pdf is a duplicate of this document.

Partial Transcription

The letter is largely illegible at available scan resolution. Fragments that can be made out:

Page 1 (scan-9-1)

Rotated 90 degrees. Appears to be the last page of the letter, signed “Vic.” or “Victor”. Some text about “Dearest Companion” [?] and genealogical details.

Pages 2-3 (scan-9-2, scan-9-3)

Rotated 90 degrees. Dense handwriting covering family history topics. Appears to include dates and names but specific details cannot be reliably read.

Pages 4-5 (scan-9-4, scan-9-5)

Rotated 90 degrees. Continuation of the letter with more genealogical discussion. Slightly more legible in places; appears to mention specific parishes, dates, and family connections.

Notes

  • The rotation and faintness suggest this was either a carbon copy or was scanned from a very light original
  • A higher-resolution re-scan of the original document, properly oriented, would be needed to recover the full content
  • The 5-page length suggests this was a substantial letter with detailed genealogical discussion, possibly comparable in importance to the July 1990 letter
